ReWork
I rarely read business books, usually when I read I do it for enjoyment and I don't need work going through my head. It's enough to spend the better part of 5 days doing that.
I came across a recommendation for a book called Rework by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson. This was not your typical "business" book. It was in a lot of ways the complete opposite to all that I had been exposed to in my career to date.
It has made me look at things in a different way and evaluate things using a different scorecard. It's also done a really good job of filling in the blanks.
I've been trying to bring a few of the initiatives from this book into my work day and strangely enough into my private time, and it's amazing how relevant they still are. I think it's simply a case of work and private time are intertwined a lot more than I thought they were.
It's early days yet, but some of the topics in this book ignited a spark in me and forced me to re-evaluate some old methodologies.
I highly recommend this to anyone working. It doesn't matter if you work for yourself or for someone else, there's something there for everyone.
